About

In Norway, grief is often an individual and lonely experience. This is a design project that explores this universal topic with curiosity and discussion. It is also our master thesis in Design at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design in Oslo, Norway.

The fear of making things worse tends to push people away

Approaching grievers can feel risky and intimidating; the fear of making things worse tends to push people away. Don't fear the griever explores alternative ways of approaching people in mourning.

Alternative present

In order to enable fruitful discussions, we illustrate what using these designs might look like. We have designed a fictitious chain of events played out in Norwegian society, that spans from 2011 to 2019.

The Alternative Present can be experienced in different ways; reading the book (look up the pink pages) or testing one of the prototypes honest.txt below

Oh no, no, no...
What do I write?

«My condolences»
After saying this, we are often out of words. Most people fear saying something wrong, so they end up not saying anything at all.

honest.txt is a chat plug-in created to lower the threshold approaching someone in mourning, removing responsibility - promoting action.
